Gant Chart Timeline Setup

How long is this going to take?  With so many gears, and pieces in motion, we need to keep our eye on the prize, and optimize the time we have to complete our clients goals.

While tools like Asana manage individual tasks assigned, and ever hour manages how much time was spent.  Our tool, Instagantt, manages our timelines on a much larger scale.

Instagantt measures our projects in scales of weeks.  It is important to remember to always try to view the gant charts from the weekly view, as daily will be the default.

Website projects only are included in the 1-GRS-001 Production Gant chart, which at a high level shows all active projects in production.  By opening the carrot “” boxes, one can see the planed time for each phase of the project.

How long do things typically take?

Its hard to answer that question correctly each and every time as each client is very unique compaired to the next.  It is what makes each business special, their individuality.

Most ‘brand based’ like websites can be broken down into a fairly consistent timeline, which looks something like:

  • 3 Weeks For Discovery Phase
  • 3 Weeks For Design Phase
  • 4 Weeks For Development Phase
  • 2 Weeks For Content Phase
  • 2 Weeks For Final Steps Phase

It is important to note that the Gant timeline can affected by multiple different facets.  Typical brand based websites are sold on the basis of a 90 day timeline, however can be completed at a scaled down process of 60 days.  Not ideal, but certainly possible with the right workloads, and the correct-fit client.  Timelines can also be scaled up to 120 days and beyond with an increased focus on quality as well as a more relaxed project scope.

Is this procedure-driven or people-driven?

While Instagantt is reasonably user friendly, it is important to communicate with all team members involved with the project to finalize the timeline scope.   Minimal training is utilized to show new users on how to setup Instagantt, however there is much more depth beyond what lies simply on the surface.
