The vision of using The Right Process
To start with ensuring client success at Globe Runner is to follow The Right Process, and understanding just what process means. There is a large difference between the meaning of ‘process‘ and ‘procedure‘.
What is a Process?
Our processes take one or more defined inputs, and turns them into defined outputs.
It is a structured set of high-level activities that define systematically what has to be done, and when. Often before moving onto the next task.
The processes are often represented in a process flowchart diagram, or a numerated workflow.
What is a Procedure?
Procedures are a series of detailed step-by-step instructions that specify how to complete a particular activity. These can simply be viewed as work instructions.
While Processes detail at a high level of what needs to be done, a procedure clearly outlines exactly what tactical steps are required to complete the process or part of it.
Putting Them Together
There can be many different levels within a single process. A well defined process will include the right level of detail that maintains consistency throughout the flowchart diagram.
Procedures could be considered the lowest level of detail associated with a particular process.
While processes are best communicated through the use of flowcharts, procedures are best communicated in the form of documents for maximum readability.
Procedure-Driven & People-Driven
There will not always be a step-by-step documented procedure for each and every activity to be completed at Globe Runner. Our clients are unique in several ways, and we are far from Robots. We are all intelligent beings, with the best of intentions, and a superior dedication to our work.
People Driven
Procedure Driven
Occasionally, you will encounter a process that has indication of being people-driven. This is indication you will need to seek assistance from an experienced team member and training to complete. While on occasion this is because procedure documentation has yet to be completed, this could also indicate that creative out of the box thinking will be required.
Do you see an opportunity to create a procedure-driven process, rather than using a people-driven way?
First off, outstanding. You are preparing to contribute to the overall success of not just Globe Runner, but also the client. Make no mistake; people play a vital role in all procedures.
The distinction being made however, are how processes are communicated.
Documenting procedure is very rewarding for all productivity, and assists with recreating consistent positive results for our clients. This also assists with helping new employees with ramping up to speed faster, thus helping out the entire team.
Are we using The Right Process?
Just because we have a process documented, does not mean we are a process driven company. It is up to us as a team to follow the process we have clearly defined.
That is our highest expectation & discipline, because it is the driving force that ensures we keep our client-success at the forefront.
